The Apostle Paul writes that we are to “be transformed by the renewal of your minds” and we are committed as a congregation to offering various opportunities for learning and spiritual formation through various classes and small group gatherings. Here are some of the courses we offer this Fall:
Throughout the academic year, we welcome special guest preachers and teachers or community leaders who offer Adult Forums after worship. Typically, we offer a light lunch and gather beginning at 11:30am and ending no later than 1:00 pm for faith related topics. Recent and upcoming guests are from local and national corporate and government institutions, seminaries or universities and provide stimulating talks on faith and current social issues.
Wednesdays at the Well is a mid-week evening gathering for inter-generational fellowship and learning. This year we will meet the third Wednesday of each month from 6:00-7:30pm to talk about different current events. A supper is provided and our Director for Family Ministries, Stephanie Hare, prepares the learning agenda. Beginning the end of September we will augment Wednesdays at the Well with an on-line course using a curriculum by Miroslav Volf (Yale Divinity School professor and author of Public Faith in Troubled Times). This course will offer opportunity to discuss more in depth how we as Christians live our faith in the public square and is designed to help us prepare for the coming election season.
MEN’S GATHERING
The Men’s Gathering is a dynamic early morning bi-weekly on-line fellowship that also meets in person a number of times throughout the year for Bible Study and faith journey talks. Two Wednesday mornings a month from 7:00 – 8:00am we offer a Bible Study or faith journey talk for anyone interested. Reach out to the Church Office if you’re interested in joining.
SUNDAY BIBLE READING
Held: Sunday, before worship (starting at 9:00am)
WEDNESDAY BIBLE STUDIES
Held: every Wednesday (starting at 10:00am)
Led by Darlene Harmon, they are continuing their study of the Apostle Paul and his three missionary journeys in the book of Acts to spread the Good News about the life and teachings of Jesus to Gentiles. Please come at 9:45am to share a cup of tea or coffee. We hope you can come join us! Everyone is invited!
Special Church is a program for adults and teenagers with Special Needs that is offered every Thursday in the Bliss House Common Room from 3:30-5:30pm. The group gathers for fellowship and spirituality every Thursday during the academic year. We begin with fellowship time as we all gather and share news of our week’s activities. We then work on a craft project which is often linked to the church calendar, and of course, music is a very important part of the Special Church.
Labyrinths offer an opportunity to journey into the center and back out again on a single path. Without the need to make choices, you can settle into a natural state of meditation and pay attention to your pace, your breathing, and your thoughts. We offer the opportunity to experience the Labyrinth in our Sanctuary a few times throughout the year. The workshop we offered in June 2024 allowed participants to come together in a half-day retreat to experience both the Classical 7-circuit and the 11-circuit Chartres Cathedral labyrinths set to lovely music in a gorgeous, quiet setting.
