On Tuesday, February 2nd at 5:30 pm we will be gathering outside the sanctuary for a brief service in observance of Candlemas. Candlemas is the official end of the Christmas season in the church year, marking the event of Jesus’ Presentation in the Temple, forty days after Jesus is born. It is in the temple that Simeon meets the Christ child and reveals that he is the Messiah, the light of the world. In honor of this day, church traditions observe this event by blessing candles to be used throughout the year (especially before electricity!), and in the French tradition they make crepes! At FPC, we ask you to bring candles from home (we will also give you some) to be blessed for use in your homes. We will also light candles during this brief outdoor liturgy. For the conclusion of the service, you are welcome to bring a warm beverage to enjoy by the fire following the service. The service begins at 5:30 so we hope you will join us to celebrate the light of the world and some fellowship time together!
